Romania’s Communications Ministry has confirmed plans to launch an international tender for four 15-year 3G licences later this year. Successful bidders would be required to pay a fee of USD35 million and will need to have an annual turnover of at least USD370 million to qualify. Romania is currently home to four cellcos – Cosmorom, MobiFon, Orange Romania and Zapp – which between them claimed 7.53 million subscribers at the end of March 2004.
