Kuwati GSM operator Wataniya Telecom has released its financial results for the first half of 2004, revealing a net profit of KWD12.03 million (USD71 million), up 39% on the previous year. Its domestic customer base grew by 12,766 during the second quarter alone, to take the total to 817,180 at the end of June, a market share of around 50%. Elsewhere, Wataniya has recently launched services in Tunisia, Iraq and Algeria, claiming a total of 1.7 million customers across the region at the same date.
