Telecom to enter hotspot market

13 Jul 2004

Telecom New Zealand has entered the burgeoning market for wireless hotspots by launching a new service at a number of the country’s main business hotels. The offering will be based on 802.11g technology, which is compatible with the widely used 802.11b standard. Telecom will compete head-on with Reach Wireless, which launched the country’s first commercial metropolitan wireless hotspot network in Auckland earlier this year. Reach has since launched smaller networks in Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown and Wellington.
