The number of subscribers using NTT DoCoMo’s proprietary wireless internet service i-mode outside of its domestic Japanese market has reached three million, up from two million at the end of February. Services are currently available through eight overseas i-mode operators: BASE (Belgium), Bouygues Telecom (France), E-Plus (Germany), Far EasTone (Taiwan), KPN Mobile (The Netherlands), Telefónica Moviles (Spain), WIND Telecomunicazioni (Italy) and Cosmote (Greece). Australian operator Telstra is due to begin offering the service before the end of the year.
