BT rivals seek Ofcom ruling on billing

Centrica, Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4 U, Telco and Vartec, five of BT’s largest rivals have written to UK telecoms watchdog Ofcom, asking it to force the former monopoly operator to allow them to offer a single phone bill for their customers. According to a report in the UK broadsheet The Telegraph, the rivals claim the lack of a ‘fit for purpose’ wholesale line rental product from BT – which would allow them to offer one bill – is the single biggest impediment to full competition in the fixed line market. None of BT’s competitors have used its wholesale line rental product – launched last March – in any significant volume because they claim the tariffs are unfair.
