9 Jul 2004

Finance Permanent Secretary Joseph Kinyua has instructed the telecoms regulator, the CCK, to set the reserve for the second national operator (SNO) licence at KES2 billion. Three consortia have expressed interest in the licence; one led by Telenor, another by ZTE and the final one headed by the Pegrume Group. The new licence is expected to be awarded in September; Telkom Kenya’s monopoly ended on 30 June 2004.
