Government predicts telecoms explosion by 2010

7 Jul 2004

Japan’s Telecommunications Ministry has today released a document in which it predicts that the country’s telecoms services, equipment and content industry will reach a colossal JPY87.6 trillion (USD803.6 billion) by 2010. The dramatic growth will be fuelled by the state’s plans to build a networked society in the country. In the past the government has striven to stimulate take-up of broadband technology and today around 15 million people benefit from high speed internet access services. However, the Ministry says it intends to expand the remit of its vision and introduce technologies such as fibre and Wi-Fi, which will present opportunities for operators, equipment manufacturers and application service providers alike.
