Wireless to outnumber fixed lines by year end

According to India’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology the number of wireless subscribers will surpass that of fixed lines by the end of year. At the end of May 2004 India was estimated to have 79.4 million telephones, of which 36.3 million, or 45%, were wireless. During April and May 2.8 million new phones were added, 70% of which were cellular.
