TRA to offer new fixed line licences

28 Jun 2004

Bahrain’s telecoms regulator the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced plans to sell new Multiple National Fixed Service (MNFS) and Multiple International Service Licenses (MISL) licences later this year. The revelation marks the full liberalisation of the country’s telecoms market, which is currently dominated by Batelco and MTC-Vodafone. The government is currently seeking to encourage Bahraini businesses to take advantages of the investment opportunities that exist in the telecoms sector – particularly in the rapidly expanding internet and value added services sectors – in a bid to improve the state of the market, create new jobs and build upon the country’s position as a business centre.
