Govt delays liberalisation announcement

18 Jun 2004

Mexico’s telecoms regulator Cofetel has delayed the publication of rules allowing cable TV operators to enter the country’s voice telephony market. Cofetel had been due to announce the new framework at the start of June, under which the nation’s CATV service providers would have been given the green light to begin offering direct telephony services incorporating VoIP technology. Mexico’s dominant telecoms operator Telmex is also seeking amendments to its licence, which would allow it to begin offering TV services.
