15 Jun 2004

Telefónica Móviles (TEM) is to ask the Argentine regulator for permission to offload spectrum it will acquire following its merger of cellco Unifon with rival Movicom. The combined company will have around 90MHz, 40MHz more spectrum than allowed under Argentine law, and TEM plans to phase out the excessive frequency over a 24 to 48 month period. The merger is currently awaiting approval by competition watchdog the CNDC and telecoms regulator SeCom.
