Fixed and mobile team up

8 Jun 2004

A number of the world’s leading telecoms operators have formed a global alliance to promote converged wireline and wireless communications services. The Fixed-to-Mobile Convergence Alliance includes big name players such as NTT DoCoMo, BT Group, Telstra, Swisscom, Korea Telecom, Brasil Telecom and Vodafone subsidiary Cegetel. Whilst the alliance has no immediate plans to invest in infrastructure, it will be aiming to speed up the introduction of converged technology by lobbying vendors to ensure compatibility between fixed and mobile equipment. One company that was not asked to join the group is cellco Orange, which has already made no secret of its desire too introduce its own converged services.
