27 May 2004

Vodafone has announced a new aggressive strategy for its Japanese market to tackle the problem of slowing subscriber growth in Asia. The new policy includes lower tariffs, aggressive targeting of higher value business users and the expansion of local retail stores. The announcement is timed to coincide with its decision to buy out minority shareholders in its Japanese unit for around GBP2.6 billion (USD4.7 billion).
