11 May 2004

Vodafone has signed a contact with Nokia for the supply of WCDMA 3G network infrastructure for its operations in Australia and New Zealand. Under the terms of the agreement, Nokia will provide the cellco with complete 3G core and radio networks, as well as offer full managed services for network operations. Vodafone may also contract Nokia to replace key elements of its Australian GSM and GPRS networks. The operator hopes that 3G will be launched commercially in the two countries by mid-2005.
