Rio de Janeiro-based network operator Intelig Telecom has selected Chinese manufacturer Huawei Technologies to quadruple capacity on its metropolitan fibre-optic network in the city. Work on the 10Gbps network will begin in the second half of June. The company has also signed a separate deal which will see systems integrator Telsinc resell its products. Intelig added that it plans to increase capacity on its other metropolitan networks, although it has given no timetable for the proposed expansion. The operator is in the throes of being sold and local press reports say that Germany’s Deutsche Bank has been selected to manage the sale; the deal is being accelerated following the recent sale of rival telco Embratel to Telmex.
