Speaking at the annual conference of Computer Science in Stockholm the Vice President of Research at Ericsson, Ulf Wahlberg, has predicted that the radio frequencies for 4G wireless networks will begin to be assigned in four year’s time, with commercial offerings expected to be on the table by 2012. Wahlberg defines 4G as mobile telephony at a data rate of 100Mbps globally. He also claims that combinatory services (ie those using 3.5G technologies such as high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA)) will be in widespread use by 2008.
