Siemens to upgrade NetCom’s network to 3G

Norwegian cellco NetCom has contracted Siemens Mobile to upgrade its GSM network with 3G technology. Under the terms of the deal, which is estimated to be worth around USD243 million, Siemens will build out the 3G network and implement base stations in southern Norway, as well as deliver and install GSM and 3G radio and core equipment in the northern part of the country. Netcom hopes to launch 3G services commercially by March 2005.
