Entel ups capex provision for 2004

4 May 2004

Chilean telecoms operator Entel has said that it will invest around USD150 million in its operations in 2004, USD100 million of which has been earmarked for improving the quality and reach of the services offered by its mobile arm Entel PCS. The company said its mobile revenues would probably fall by 10% in 2004 following the recent implementation of a 26.5% reduction in fixed-to-mobile interconnection rates. Nevertheless, Entel PCS is expecting its end-2003 subscriber base of 2.68 million to grow by between 10% and 15% during the current year. The company has scotched rumours that it is in talks to buy Chile’s fourth mobile operator Smartcom PCS.
