Data network operator Africom, broadcaster Transmedia and Powertell – a subsidiary of state-owned power company ZESA, have established a new telecoms company intent on entering the Zimbabwean fixed line sector. The new operator, Afritell, has already applied to the country’s regulator for a wireline network licence and is hoping to become the sector’s second private telco, competing alongside TeleAccess and state-owned TelOne.
