Argentinian wireless operator Unifon has launched its GSM network in the Atlantic city of Mar del Plata, as part of its ARS700 million investment to rollout the network on a national basis. By mid-2004 the company expects GSM to be available in most cities in the interior of the country, operating alongside its TDMA platform. Parent company of Unifon, Telefonica Moviles, recently agreed to buy rival cellcom Movicom, as part of its purchase of BellSouth’s Latin American assets.
