MTC and Detecon will take over mobile networks by June

22 Apr 2004

Kuwait’s Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) and Germany-based firm Detecon will formally take responsibility for managing Lebanon’s two mobile networks – Cellis and LibanCell – by the deadline of 1 June 2004, having yesterday committed to signing final contracts with the state ministry. The government will pay Detecon around USD201.3 million to manage Cellis and MTC USD209.3 million to run LibanCell. The two have promised to reinvigorate Lebanon’s stagnant cellular market with MTC pledging to invest in the roll out of an additional 250,000 lines to boost LibanCell’s capacity to 650,000.
