22 apply for wireless licence

20 Apr 2004

The Namibian Communications Commission has said that more than 20 companies have applied for a forthcoming wireless concession, despite the closing date not yet having been set. According to the proposed timetable, the official closing date will be set for sometime in June, with the actual award scheduled for Q3 2004. The new licensee will compete with Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC), a joint venture between the Namibian government and Swedish investors, which at the end of 2003 claimed 300,000 customers.
