Transelectric will complete nationwide backbone by mid-2005

8 Apr 2004

Ecuadorian carriers’ carrier Transelectric has announced plans to complete the build-out of a 1,000km long fibre-optic backbone network in the country by the middle of 2005. The operator has already completed the first stretch of the line which runs between Quito and Santo Domingo de los Colarados, and hopes to have finished the second phase – from Guayaquil to Cuenca – by September this year. Once completed, the network will be the first nationwide fibre-optic backbone in Ecuador.
