Hispamar, the Latin American satellite joint venture between Telemar of Brazil and Hispasat of Spain, plans to launch its first satellite in July. Telemar says the platform will cost BRL1 billion (USD350 million) and will cover all of South America and the southern regions of the US and Europe. Telemar is expected to terminate its agreement with its current satellite services provider, Star One, as soon as the new platform is launched.
