Ofcom steps in over BT tariff changes

1 Apr 2004

Regulator Ofcom has launched a formal investigation into proposed tariff changes by BT Group following complaints by more than a dozen of its fixed line competitors. Last week BT announced plans to axe its standard tariffs and switch as many as half of its 18 million customers to its ‘BT Together’ packages. BT’s competitors claim that, whilst the Together options offer lower call charges, line rental is higher, making it harder for them to compete, especially given the continued absence of a viable wholesale line rental product.
