MTC: rapid subscriber growth hits quality

30 Mar 2004

According to Windhoek-based Mobile Telephone Company (MTC), a rapid uptake of customers has had a knock-on effect on the quality of its services. According to the company’s managing director Bengt Strenge, MTC’s customer base grew by 56% to 180,326 in the year to September 2003. However, the rise in customers has meant that connectivity and quality of reception has suffered. To remedy the situation, MTC has begun installing 1800MHz base stations to supplement its existing 900MHz ones.
