Mobile spectrum bidding rules approved

Uruguay’s president Jorge Batlle has approved the bidding rules for the sale of a number of new mobile licences, enabling the regulator Uresec to go ahead with an auction for the concessions. Uresec, which expects the process to conclude within two months, will be offering six 10MHz blocks of spectrum, two in the 1800MHz band and four in the 1900MHz band, priced at USD6 million each. Mexican holding company América Móvil and the country’s number two cellco Movicom BellSouth are both expected to submit bids.
