Lucent wins USD75 million contract

Iraq’s US-led Department of Defence has awarded a USD75 million contract to Lucent Technologies for the repair and modernisation of the country’s telecoms networks. The company, which will be responsible for updating and repairing both wireless and wireline services, said it would begin the project next month. It will work under the direction of the US-controlled Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq, with the majority of the work being done by Iraqi nationals.
