Eleven million new Chinese phone subscribers in February

25 Mar 2004

China’s mobile subscriber base expanded by a further 5.53 million users in February, taking the total to 282.33 million, according to the Ministry of Information Industry (MII). Whilst this was outstripped by the 5.6 million new fixed line customers added over the month, there have been more mobile subscribers than wireline users in China since October 2003; total fixed line subscribers totalled 274.53 million at the end of February. The MII says that telecoms revenues for the first two months of 2004 were up 15.3% year-on-year to CNY45.95 billion (USD5.56 billion).
