Four 3G players enough?

24 Mar 2004

Two of Hong Kong’s 3G licensees – Telstra’s CSL and Sunday Communications – have poured scorn on the government’s proposals to licence a fifth player. Hubert Ng, CSL’s chief executive, said that the telecoms regulator Ofta should reconsider whether there are already too many licensees for the market. The criticism follows Friday’s announcement that Ofta would use frequencies from the expired licences currently held by Hutchison and CSL to issue a fifth 3G licence.
