DoCoMo and Far EasTone buddy up for 3G

18 Mar 2004

Taiwan’s third largest mobile operator Far EasTone has signed a consulting agreement with Japanese heavyweight NTT DoCoMo to realise the commercial launch of W-CDMA 3G services later this year. Under the agreement, which comes into effect on 23 March and runs until 22 September, the Taiwanese cellco will field-test a pilot UMTS network under the guidance of engineers from its Japanese counterpart. The tie-up is a product of a joint initiative forged by the two companies in October 2003 to cooperate on W-CDMA and i-mode services.
