ART approved 3G delay

10 Mar 2004

French telecoms regulator ART has delayed the launch date and deadlines for Orange and SFR to reach initial 3G coverage targets. The deadline for commercial launch has been put back to 31 December 2004, while the requirement for them to have 58% population coverage has been postponed until the end of 2005. The conditions for the third licensee – Bouygues Télécom – are being considered separately, as a result of it receiving its licence over a year later than its rivals.
