1 Mar 2004

Japanese telco Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp (NTT) has announced plans to invest JPY200 billion (USD1.83 billion) into its fibre-optic network in its next financial year, starting in April. The operator said it hopes to see users of the service tripling to 2.12 million by the end of March 2005; it claimed 705,000 subscribers at the end of January, up from 200,000 twelve months before that. The fibre-optic service enables users to access the internet at high speeds, and can provide voice, data and video services.
