1 Mar 2004

US-based mobile operator AT&T Wireless has finally agreed to purchase Jamaica’s fourth mobile licence, following two years of negotiations. The operator will pay USD300 million for the concession and will compete with Digicel, Cable & Wireless Jamaica and Oceanic Digital in the sector. AT&T Wireless sees Jamaica as an important country for part of its long-term strategy in the Caribbean; it already has operations in Puerto Rica, St Lucia and St Vincent, with licences to launch in Barbados and Granada.
