Telstra emerges as latest bidder for Excelcomindo

24 Feb 2004

Australian telco Telstra has entered into talks with Telekomindo P-rimabhakti (TP), a shareholder in Indonesia’s third-largest mobile phone company Excelcomindo, to acquire a stake in the Indonesian cellco. TP says it is open to discussion with other operators as well as Telstra – including China Telecom and Telekom Malaysia – but has not yet discussed any figures. Foreign companies are keen to enter the Indonesian mobile market, which is currently one of the least developed in Asia and is regarded as having a lot of potential for growth.
