French equipment manufacturer Alcatel has completed the deployment of an optical multiservice solution for 3G mobile network operator 3 UK, a subsidiary of Hong Kong’s Hutchison Whampoa. By optimising network efficiency, the system is designed to facilitate the faster delivery of video applications over 3’s network by remotely managing the equivalent of more than 3.5 million simultaneous mobile calls on a single platform. According to Alcatel, the network enhancement includes its Multi-Service Metro Gateway and SDH Optical Multi-Service Node systems equipped with the Integrated Service Adapter cards, allowing 3 to aggregate its ethernet, ATM and TDM traffic.
