3G commercialisation to be delayed

19 Feb 2004

The deployment of TD-SCDMA third-generation (3G) network equipment by China’s mobile operators will not be able to take place until next year, according to China Datang Mobile Equipment, one of the companies developing the standard. The commercialisation of TD-SCDMA had been expected to begin later this year, but a series of delays has seen the launch date pushed back to at least March 2004 by Datang and its partner in the venture, German equipment manufacturer Siemens.
