Incumbent operator Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) has signed a two-year agreement with US-based Net2Phone Global Services under which it will begin offering a range of services from the latter’s extensive VoIP portfolio. The deal covers the provision of VoIP calling cards, including prefix dialling services, and internet telephony call shop services.
In a separate announcement, TSTT has awarded Canadian equipment manufacturer Nortel Networks a two-year, USD33 million contract to migrate its existing networks to an IP platform, which it hopes to put into service in the second quarter of 2004. The packet-switched solution will incorporate equipment from Nortel’s Succession Carrier and Multimedia Communications portfolios. TSTT is a joint venture between the Trinidad and Tobago government and the UK’s Cable & Wireless.
