Omantel expands network capacity

10 Feb 2004

Omantel, Oman’s sole mobile operator for more than ten years, has expanded its GSM network capacity to 650,000 in an attempt to tackle congestion problems that saw a derisory 55% of mobile calls connect over the new year period. The expansion meant that around 95% of the twelve million calls made over its network during the Eid Al Adha holidays reached their intended recipient. With Omantel facing the imminent arrival of competition it is working hard to improve both its coverage and range of services.
