Nexans wants Alcatel’s fibre-optic business

3 Feb 2004

French cable maker Nexans has entered a bid for the fibre-optics unit of its former parent Alcatel, after reporting a return to profit for 2003. The company was separated from Alcatel’s fibre-optics business in 2001 when it was floated by the parent. Nexans said that if the bid was rejected it would look in Asia or the US for fibre-optic acquisitions.
