Following six months of trials Telekom Malaysia launched the country’s first commercial 3G mobile service last week . The cellco has pledged to invest USD1.1 billion in the W-CDMA network, which will initially only be available on a limited basis to a restricted number of users. Telekom is one of only two cellcos licensed to provide 3G services in Malaysia; the other being Maxis Communications, which is due to start piloting its network this quarter.
