BT claims 85% of UK can now receive broadband

2 Feb 2004

BT has announced that more than 85% of UK homes and businesses can now access its ADSL network following the equipping of its 1,000th central office exchange. The telco expects to have upped the figure to 90% by the summer. BT’s broadband installation scheme is based around a ‘trigger system’ whereby a certain number of requests must be made by potential customers before ADSL is installed in the local exchange; more than 700,000 requests have been made since the telco began the scheme in July 2002.
