1.3 million mobile customers added in 4Q

Spain’s three mobile operators, Telefónica Moviles, Amena and Vodafone (formerly AirTel), collectively added more than 1.3 million customers in the final three months of 2003. Leading operator Telefónica said it attracted 560,000 new customers, with Amena adding half a million and Vodafone 286,000. At the end of the year there were 37.52 million mobile subscribers nationwide, up from 33.53 million at the end of 2002. Telefónica retains its hold on the sector with 19.66 million customers and a market share of 52.4%, ahead of Vodafone with 9.69 million (25.8%) and Amena with 8.17 million (21.8%).
