Impsat to launch local telephony services by year-end

26 Jan 2004

Argentina-based Impsat has announced that it plans to offer local telephony services in Brazil before the end of the year, but only in those metro areas where it already has extensive fibre-optic capacity. Impsat had originally planned to offer services in the cities of Brasilia, Campinas and Porto Alegre, but has told regulator Anatel that it wants to return the licences for the areas due to the high cost of interconnection fees. The telco will now only offer services in Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
