Nokia: upbeat on all fronts

Nokia has reported better than expected results for 2003, with the company selling 471 million handsets, an increase of 16% year-on-year. Nokia Mobile Phones now estimates its global share of the handset market to be in the region of 38%, slightly above that for 2002. It holds the number one position in the US, and takes the largest share of GSM handsets sold in China. Year-on-year market volume growth was 20% in Europe, 17% in the Americas and about 11% in the Asia-Pacific region. In terms of revenues, net sales across the group actually fell by 2% during the course of 2003 to EUR29.45 billion. Net profit climbed 6% to EUR3.38 billion.
