Just one bidder – Eurocom – is left in the tender for two three-year contracts to manage state-owned telecoms operators Andinatel and Pacifictel. The Eurocom consortium is made up of Telecom Management Partner (a subsidiary of Norway’s Telenor) and local telecoms company Fononet. The Ecuadorian privatisation authority – FS – has extended the deadline for qualifying Eurocom to the end of January. If successful, Eurocom will have to present its economic bid for the contracts on 5 February. If the offer is accepted, Eurocom will take over operations at the two companies on 1 March. Companies which withdrew from the bidding process included the Telecom International Management Group, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Colombia’s Empresas Publicas de Medellin and law firms Corral & Rosales and Baesuno.
