FT to shed 15,000 staff

20 Jan 2004

Thierry Breton, the CEO of France Télécom, has announced a sweeping reorganisation of his company in a move which will see it lose up to 15,000 staff. The cuts will be made through a programme of early retirement and reassignment to other branches, rather than via redundancies. The losses will take the telco close to its goal of shedding 22,000 employees in the period 2003-2005, having already announced 13,000 job cuts last year.
