BT broadband breaks 1Mbps barrier

19 Jan 2004

From 19 January UK telco BT is launching a high speed internet access service, offering consumers within 3.5km of a broadband-enabled exchange transmission speeds of 1Mbps – its fastest internet service yet. The new offering, which will be available to BT Yahoo! Broadband and BT Broadband customers, will double the existing top speed and provide connections at up to 20 times faster than the old dial-up alternative. Customers signing up before 31 March also benefit from the fillip of a free modem and connection as BT looks to bolster its position in the market in order to achieve its goal of five million broadband connections by 2006.
