KDDI gains more subscribers than DoCoMo in 2003

Japan’s KDDI Corp won more customers than any of its rivals in 2003, bettering NTT DoCoMo for the first time. KDDI’s au Group gained 2.51 million new subscribers in the year, compared to DoCoMo’s 2.49 million. Vodafone KK, the country’s third largest cellco, reported growth of 114,200 customers in the year. At the end of the year, DoCoMo had a total customer base of 45.36 milion, au claimed 15.98 million and Vodafone KK reported 14.74 million.
