Algeria’s government has sanctioned the go ahead for the launch of a third cellular phone operator in the country in the shape of Kuwaiti National Mobiles Telecommunications Company (NMTC). The newcomer, which is also known as al-Wataniya, was declared the provisional winner of the concession last month having submitted the highest bid of USD421 million, to trump rival offers from Spain’s Telefónica Móviles and MTN of South Africa.
